What Causes Upper Back Pain?

A facet joint is a joint between two vertebrae which allow you to move while keeping your spine in proper alignment.  Like many other joints in our bodies, facet joints are liable to wear and tear as we get older.  Facet syndrome occurs where you have inflammation of one or more facet joints.  The inflammation can lead to referred pain whereby you feel pain in another place other than where the pain is being caused.  This condition may cause tendered in an area to the side of your spine in your upper or lower back.  This can cause  upper back pain and discomfort and can also become worse if you move your neck about too much.  Facet syndrome isn’t serious, but it can be very painful.
